Police Submit Explanation Over Car Burning Case Involving Former Major Sadiqul
Dhaka police have submitted a written explanation regarding the involvement of former major Sadiqul Haque in a private car arson case. The defense argued that the accused was already in prison when the incident occurred.

Dhaka police have submitted a formal written explanation to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court concerning the alleged involvement of former major Sadiqul Haque in a private car arson case within the jurisdiction of Bhatara Police Station. The documents were presented to the court on August 16 by Bhatara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam and investigating officer Sub-Inspector Md. Chand Ali.
The legal proceedings stem from an incident on November 11, 2025, when a private car was set on fire in front of the bitumen gate area under Bhatara Police Station. Following the incident, the case drew significant attention regarding the alleged mastermind and participants involved in the localized destruction of property during a period of heightened political tension involving various groups.
During the court proceedings, defense counsel H. M. Al-Amin raised serious questions regarding the validity of the charges against his client. The defense lawyer stated in court, "The accused was in prison at the time of the incident. How can he burn a car while staying in prison?" highlighting a major chronological contradiction in the police case.
Background details presented to the court indicate that the former military officer, Sadiqul Haque Sadiq, had previously been detained from the Uttara area on July 17 of the previous year and taken into Bangladesh Army custody. Subsequently, a military court sentenced him to three months of imprisonment, placing him behind bars well before the November arson attack took place.
The submission of the written explanation by the police follows ongoing judicial scrutiny of the case documents and witness testimonies compiled by investigators. The court is expected to review the police explanation alongside the defense arguments as the legal process continues to determine accountability for the Bhatara vehicle burning incident.
