Law enforcement authorities in Bangladesh have successfully recovered a total of eight homemade firearms during a targeted search operation conducted in the upazila of Moheshkhali, located within the wider Cox's Bazar district. The operation, which yielded a significant cache of illegal weaponry, was officially disclosed to the public and the media during a formal press briefing held on the afternoon of August 30, 2025.
According to the verified details released by the authorities, the illicit items were discovered concealed inside a CNG-run auto-rickshaw that was intercepted and searched by the police. The confiscated arms inventory specifically includes one domestically manufactured rifle alongside seven homemade single-barrel guns. In addition to the firearms, law enforcement personnel also seized two mobile phones from the scene during the operation.
As a direct result of the discovery, police personnel detained two individuals at the location. However, the operation was not without complications, as authorities confirmed that two additional suspects managed to successfully flee the scene before they could be apprehended by law enforcement officers.
The details regarding the successful recovery operation, the seizure of the specific weaponry statistics, and the status of the suspects were formally detailed during the press conference held at the Cox's Bazar District Superintendent of Police Office. The operational response was executed by the local police administration, specifically involving officers from the Moheshkhali Police Station.
At this stage of the ongoing investigation, authorities have not yet publicly released the formal identifications or the specific personal details of the individuals who were detained during the auto-rickshaw search, nor have they publicly named the suspects who successfully evaded capture. The investigation into the origin and intended destination of the eight recovered homemade firearms remains active under the supervision of the local police department.
