Police Officer and BNP Leader Killed in Separate Incidents in Bangladesh
Law enforcement agencies have arrested 12 suspects following the beating death of a police officer in Savar. Meanwhile, the prime suspect has been arrested for the shooting and hacking death of a BNP leader in Pabna.
In two separate and violent incidents that occurred in Bangladesh during 2024, a police officer and a political leader have been killed, prompting swift actions from law enforcement agencies resulting in multiple arrests.
In the first incident, which took place in the Aminbagh area of Savar, a special branch police sub-inspector named Md. Altab Hossain, who was 58 years old, was beaten to death. Following this tragic event, a formal case was filed naming 15 individuals alongside another 15 to 20 unidentified suspects.
Investigation into the Savar murder case led the police to apprehend a total of 12 suspects. The individuals arrested in connection with the beating death of the 58-year-old sub-inspector include Jahurul, Alauddin, Apon, Jihad, Imran, Rudra, Rakib, Sabbir Ahmed, Md. Wasim, Billal Hossain, Delwar, and Rabbi. Authorities continue their efforts regarding the case registered at the Savar Model Police Station.
In a separate violent episode in Pabna district, specifically within Atgharia upazila, a local BNP leader named Adam Ali, aged 60, was brutally murdered. According to the confirmed facts, the victim was both shot and hacked to death during the attack.
Following the killing of the 60-year-old BNP leader Adam Ali, law enforcement agencies successfully arrested the prime suspect, 52-year-old Irajul Islam. This murder case in Pabna was filed with 14 named individuals and an additional four to five unidentified suspects.
As investigations and operations continue across Savar and Pabna, the police and other security forces remain active in pursuing all implicated parties involved in these two high-profile murder cases from 2024.
