Payra River Bridge Construction Faces Years of Delays

The construction of a vital 1.6-kilometer bridge over the Payra River has faced significant delays, with the project remaining incomplete despite years passing since its initiation. The infrastructure initiative, located across the Patuakhali and Pirojpur regions, was originally conceived to bridge critical geographical divides and enhance regional transit networks.

According to the project outlines, the total cost for the construction of the bridge was estimated at 1,042 crore taka. This substantial financial allocation was intended to cover all necessary engineering and structural phases required to complete the 1.6-kilometer crossing over the Payra River successfully.

The primary objective of this major infrastructure undertaking was to establish a direct and uninterrupted road communication network. Once completed, the bridge would connect Patuakhali through Pirojpur directly to the major urban and port hubs of Khulna and Mongla, transforming regional commerce and commuter travel.

Despite the strategic importance of establishing this direct road link between Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Khulna, and Mongla, the construction work has encountered continuous setbacks. Years have passed since the project was first slated for development, yet the 1.6-kilometer bridge over the Payra River has still not reached completion.

As the timeline stretches further without a finalized structure, the anticipated benefits for travelers and commercial transport relying on the Patuakhali-Pirojpur route remain unrealized.
