A significant tripartite memorandum of understanding has been officially signed to dramatically improve the waste management system within the Pabna Municipality. The collaborative agreement involves Pabna Municipality, Square Pharmaceuticals, and the development organization BRAC, marking a major step forward for municipal sanitation and environmental efforts in the region.

The formal signing ceremony took place at the District Shilpakala Academy on Saturday, September 12, 2026, commencing at 11:00 am. The event brought together numerous local stakeholders, community figures, and distinguished representatives from the partnering organizations to witness the landmark municipal development initiative.

According to official data released during the event, the city of Pabna currently generates an average of approximately 103 tons of waste every single day. This substantial daily volume highlights the urgent necessity for enhanced infrastructural planning and sustainable long-term solutions to manage urban refuse effectively.

Addressing the gathering, Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas emphasized the importance of self-reliance and proactive community action in achieving local development goals. He stated, 'Instead of waiting for government initiatives, if we ourselves can take initiatives to fulfill our expectations, if we can formulate our own initiatives into an action, then it will remain an emulable example.'

Highlighting the historical context and future trajectory of the region, Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas also noted that a comprehensive one-hundred-year master plan has been formulated centered around the nearly two-hundred-year-old Pabna Municipality. He added that although the area had fallen behind in various fields, it is now successfully advancing alongside the broader national transformations currently taking place in Bangladesh.
