Oman to Recruit 10,000 Bangladeshi Agricultural and Fishery Workers

Bangladesh and Oman have officially signed a bilateral agreement regarding the deployment of skilled workers from the agricultural and fisheries sectors. Under the terms of this newly finalized agreement, the government of Oman has formally communicated its intention to recruit a total of 10,000 workers from Bangladesh to support its domestic agricultural and fishery industries.

According to the official breakdown of the recruitment agreement, the Omani side will intake a total of 5,000 agricultural workers and an additional 5,000 fishermen from Bangladesh. This substantial intake builds upon an existing, pre-approved quota system that currently authorizes the recruitment of 5,000 Bangladeshi agricultural laborers within the Sultanate of Oman.

The announcement regarding the recruitment agreement and the upcoming visit of a high-level Omani agricultural delegation to Bangladesh was highlighted during official proceedings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs located in Dhaka. The developments were discussed extensively in the context of ongoing bilateral relations between the two nations, involving key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Omani Ministry of Agriculture, and the Omani Agriculture Association.

She noted that visa issuance operations for Oman have remained suspended due to various prevailing factors, creating challenges for prospective migrants hoping to secure employment in the Middle Eastern nation.

Emphasizing the government's proactive response to these administrative bottlenecks, Shama Obaid stated that intensive diplomatic channels are being actively pursued to resolve the situation. She specifically remarked, "বিভিন্ন কারণে ওমানের ভিসা কার্যক্রম বন্ধ রয়েছে। নিয়মিতভাবে যাতে বাংলাদেশিরা ওমানে যেতে পারেন, সে জন্য সরকার কূটনৈতিক প্রচেষ্টা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছে।"
