In a significant financial restructuring for the public sector in Bangladesh, the initial basic salaries for government employees have been officially increased by 100 to 142 percent under a new pay structure. This widespread adjustment comprehensively redesigns the financial framework for state personnel across various administrative tiers, directly impacting the initial compensation figures distributed to workers.
Specifically, the first tier through the eleventh grade have all experienced a substantial 100 percent increase in their initial basic salaries. Meanwhile, positions categorized from the twelfth to the twentieth grade have witnessed even higher upward adjustments, with the salary enhancement rates ranging from 111.5 to 142 percent depending on the specific tier.
At the highest executive levels of the administration, prominent positions have seen their baseline remuneration double. The positions of Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, and other equivalent ranks now carry a newly established initial basic salary of 172,000 taka, a direct rise from the previous amount of 86,000 taka. Similarly, Senior Secretaries and those holding equivalent statuses are now designated a basic salary of 164,000 taka, marking an increase from their former 82,000 taka pay.
Further detailing the structured hierarchy, Grade 1 now features an initial basic salary of 156,000 taka compared to the past 78,000 taka, while Grade 2 has shifted to 132,000 taka from 66,000 taka. Grade 3 is set at 113,000 taka up from 56,500 taka, Grade 4 moves to 100,000 taka from 50,000 taka, Grade 5 reaches 86,000 taka from 43,000 taka, Grade 6 stands at 71,000 taka from 35,500 taka, Grade 7 totals 58,000 taka from 29,000 taka, Grade 8 records 46,000 taka from 23,000 taka, Grade 9 adjusts to 44,000 taka from 22,000 taka, Grade 10 becomes 32,000 taka from 16,000 taka, and Grade 11 concludes the fully doubled bracket at 25,000 taka compared to the earlier 12,500 taka.
The remaining tiers encompassing the higher percentage increases show Grade 12 at 24,300 taka from 11,300 taka, Grade 13 at 24,000 taka from 11,000 taka, Grade 14 at 23,500 taka from 10,200 taka, Grade 15 at 22,800 taka from 9,700 taka, and Grade 16 at 21,900 taka from 9,300 taka. Additionally, Grade 17 is established at 21,400 taka from 9,000 taka, Grade 18 at 21,000 taka from 8,800 taka, Grade 19 at 20,500 taka from 8,500 taka, and Grade 20 rounds out the structure with an initial basic salary of 20,000 taka, significantly increased from its previous rate of 8,250 taka.
