Bangladesh and Oman have officially signed a bilateral agreement regarding the deployment of skilled workers from the agricultural and fisheries sectors, according to an official announcement made at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on September 9.

Under the terms of the newly finalized agreement, Oman has stated its intention to recruit a total of 10,000 workers from Bangladesh. This total allocation is evenly divided, with the Gulf nation set to take in 5,000 agricultural workers and an additional 5,000 professional fishermen.

Furthermore, authorities confirmed that an existing approved quota allowing for the recruitment of 5,000 Bangladeshi agricultural workers in Oman is currently active. The initiative involves coordination among key governmental and international bodies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Ministry of Agriculture of Oman, and the Oman Agriculture Association.

Despite these new developments, concerns regarding migration channels remain a priority for officials. Addressing the current status of bilateral labor mobility, Shama Obaid noted that visa processing operations for Oman have faced closures due to various reasons.

Emphasizing the government's commitment to overcoming these bureaucratic hurdles, Shama Obaid stated that the administration is actively pursuing diplomatic efforts to ensure that Bangladeshi nationals can travel to Oman on a regular and uninterrupted basis.
