Old Dhaka's Bahadur Shah Park sees new drive for underprivileged kids

A fresh initiative has been launched to energize the weekly educational activities for underprivileged and rootless children in the historic Old Dhaka area. The event took place on August 20 at the well-known Bahadur Shah Park, which is also historically recognized as Victoria Park. This ongoing social effort aims to bring basic learning opportunities directly to vulnerable children who live on the streets and face daily hardships.

The latest drive received significant backing from Kazi Zia Uddin Basit, the vice-president of the central committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and a leader associated with the Jagannath University wing of the organization. Under his patronage, the organizers introduced new elements to the educational session to make learning more engaging and accessible for the participating youngsters.

As part of the day's special programme, various sports equipment was distributed among the children to encourage physical activity alongside their studies. In addition to the sports gear, prizes were handed out to the young participants to recognize their enthusiasm and participation in the educational and recreational activities arranged at the park.

Emphasizing the crucial need to protect these vulnerable youths, Kazi Zia Uddin Basit stated, 'It is essential to ensure that no one can push them into the world of crime or use them as tools to serve selfish interests. I believe that having the light of minimum education is imperative to make them aware of these matters.'

Highlighting the connection between recreation and learning, Basit further remarked, 'Moreover, since they are not accustomed to a normal lifestyle, they remain largely distant from sports and entertainment. Therefore, we are viewing the matter of their sports with great importance. This sports activity will also make them more interested in their education.'
