NCP and Qawmi Council Reach Agreement in Brahmanbaria After Unrest

On August 29, 2026, a significant political reconciliation took place in Brahmanbaria between the leaders of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) and the Qawmi Chhatra Oikkya Parishad. The development follows a period of tension and conflict that had previously resulted in thirty madrasa students sustaining injuries.

Seeking to mend relations and address the underlying grievances, NCP leader Nasir Uddin Patwary visited the Jamia Yunusia Madrasa. During the visit, he held comprehensive meetings with the Qawmi students and teachers, taking the opportunity to officially express regret on behalf of Hasnat Abdullah regarding the ongoing controversies.

The high-level discussions at the madrasa saw the active participation of several key figures from the local religious community. The madrasa was represented by prominent leaders including Mufti Mobarak Ullah, Maulana Ali Akbar, and Khaled Saifullah, who engaged directly with the visiting delegation.

Addressing the context of the recent tensions, Nasir Uddin Patwary highlighted the deep ties and mutual respect that exist between the delegation and the madrasa's academic community. He emphasized that the student representatives specifically requested that Hasnat Abdullah present accurate information regarding Brahmanbaria in the national parliament.

Patwary also addressed external reactions to the local dispute, noting that many individuals were celebrating from the outside. Directing his remarks toward them, he stated that this was strictly an internal family matter that had now been fully resolved, marking a definitive end to the prior misunderstandings.

Concluding his remarks, Patwary raised concerns regarding governance and accountability, alleging that the home minister had consistently attempted to conceal the truth and failed to stand by the affected madrasa students or ensure proper justice for them.
