Mother Evicted After Sons Clash Over Father's Burial in Keshabpur

An elderly mother in Bangladesh has taken formal legal action after being allegedly driven out of her home by her youngest son and daughter-in-law. The case centers around Nurjahan Begum, an elderly resident who has formally submitted a written complaint to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Keshabpur upazila, seeking justice and administrative intervention for her plight.

The family turmoil in Sannyasgachha village began following the death of Khalek Man, a 75-year-old local resident. Tensions boiled over early Monday morning when Khalek Man's body was kept at the family home, triggering a violent confrontation between his two sons, Mahbubur Rahman, 52, and Asabul, 42, over the division of family land and the location of the family graveyard.

The argument quickly escalated into a physical clash between the two factions, resulting in four people sustaining injuries. The wounded individuals were subsequently admitted to a hospital for medical treatment. Local authorities had to intervene, with police stepping in to restore order and oversee the burial of the deceased patriarch.

The situation deteriorated further after the injured family members returned home from the hospital following their medical treatment. According to the official complaint, the youngest son, Asabul, and his wife, Halima Khatun, forcibly evicted the elderly mother, Nurjahan Begum, driving her out of the family residence entirely.

Left with nowhere to turn and facing abandonment by her children, Nurjahan Begum chose to bypass local arbitration and approach the highest local government office. She has officially lodged a written grievance with the Keshabpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer, demanding immediate justice and the establishment of proper legal measures against those responsible for her displacement.
