Recent scientific findings and media reports, highlighted in Dhaka, Bangladesh, have brought renewed attention to the pervasive issue of microplastics entering the human body and the severe health risks they pose. According to the data, microplastics are defined as plastic particles that measure smaller than five millimetres in size. These microscopic fragments have become increasingly common in daily environments, raising significant concerns among medical professionals regarding their long-term impact on human health and bodily functions.

Extensive research indicates that an adult human body absorbs and ingests an average of approximately five grams of plastic particles every single week. This continuous accumulation occurs primarily through three main pathways: food and beverages, respiration through breathing, and absorption via the skin and various cosmetic products. As these everyday sources interact with the human body, the plastic particles bypass normal biological barriers and begin to lodge themselves in various tissues and vital systems.

Scientific investigations have successfully detected the presence of these tiny plastic particles in a wide array of human anatomical locations. Specifically, microplastics have been discovered inside blood vessel plaque, human lungs, the liver, the brain, reproductive organs, and even the placenta during pregnancy. The widespread distribution of these particles across such critical organs demonstrates just how deeply modern environmental pollution has penetrated human biology.

Further compounding these alarming discoveries, a prominent study published in The New England Journal of Medicine has shed light on the deadly cardiovascular consequences of internal plastic contamination. The research specifically examined the presence of microplastics within blood vessel plaque and revealed a chilling correlation with major cardiac events. According to the findings, individuals with microplastics present in their blood vessels face a risk of heart attack, stroke, and sudden death that is approximately four and a half times higher than that of the general population.
