Meherpur Police Return 108 Lost Phones and Tk 17.43 Lakh to Owners

Meherpur district police have successfully returned 108 lost mobile phones to their rightful owners following a series of dedicated operations. In addition to the recovered cellular devices, authorities also handed over a total of Tk 17.43 lakh that had been siphoned off through fraud or mistakenly transferred, restoring the funds to the affected individuals.

The formal handover event took place on Thursday morning at 10:30 AM on the premises of the Superintendent of Police office. The successful recovery and subsequent return of these assets were the direct result of targeted operations conducted by the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell of the Meherpur police over the months of June and July 2026.

A detailed breakdown of the recovered finances reveals that Tk 16.84 lakh was amassed through fraudulent activities involving mobile financial services such as bKash and Nagad. Furthermore, an additional Tk 59,000 that had been erroneously sent to incorrect accounts via mobile banking was successfully traced and retrieved for the citizens.

Alongside the financial assets and physical mobile devices, law enforcement officials also successfully restored 26 compromised or lost Facebook accounts to their original owners, further mitigating the impact of digital crimes in the region.

Addressing the gathering during the handover ceremony, Uttam Kumar Roy emphasized the commitment of the local law enforcement agency to combating digital offenses. He stated, "If incidents of cybercrime occur, including online gambling, visa fraud under the guise of sending people abroad, bKash fraud, and online shopping scams, victims must come to the police station. The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell is actively working to provide legal assistance to the victims."
