Khulna Division Faces Surge in Dengue Cases and Deaths
Khulna division has recorded 173 new dengue hospitalizations and two deaths in the past 24 hours. Total infections since January 1 have reached 3,996 across the region.
The dengue situation in the Khulna division has escalated significantly, with health authorities reporting a sharp increase in both infections and fatalities. According to official data released on August 20, 2026, a total of 173 new patients were admitted to various hospitals across the division over the preceding 24-hour period, alongside two reported deaths.
This latest surge brings the cumulative total of dengue cases in the region to 3,996 since the beginning of the year, spanning from January 1 through August 20. Official records maintained by the government indicate that the death toll for the division has now reached 16 confirmed fatalities. Additionally, at least seven deaths have been officially verified specifically within the current month of August.
Despite the rising number of infections, healthcare facilities have managed recoveries for a large portion of the patients. Statistical reports show that 3,435 individuals have successfully recovered from the mosquito-borne virus and have been discharged to return home. Meanwhile, medical personnel continue to provide care to active patients, with 506 people currently undergoing treatment inside various hospitals across the division.
In terms of severe case management, regional medical facilities have found it necessary to transfer patients requiring advanced care. Specifically, 39 individuals have been formally referred to higher-level facilities for specialized medical intervention to manage critical complications arising from the virus.
Amidst the escalating health crisis, local authorities have intensified enforcement measures to curb mosquito breeding. The mobile court of the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) conducted operations on Thursday and penalized nine individuals a total of 14,000 taka after finding their residential courtyards and surrounding premises in an unclean condition, posing public health risks.
