In a significant judicial development originating from Dhaka, Bangladesh, Justice Md. Habibul Gani has been elevated from the High Court Division to serve as a judge on the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. The official appointment was formalized and announced through a gazette notification issued by the Law and Judicial Division of the Ministry of Law on Thursday, August 27, 2026, marking a notable update in the nation's highest judiciary.

With the implementation of this latest appointment by the President, the total number of sitting judges serving on the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will officially rise to five. This expansion of the bench comes as the judiciary continues to manage its caseload and judicial responsibilities at the highest appellate level in the capital city.

Justice Habibul Gani brings extensive judicial experience to his new role within the Appellate Division. His career on the bench includes his initial appointment as an additional judge of the High Court Division on April 18, 2010. Following his tenure as an additional judge, he was subsequently appointed as a permanent judge of the same division on April 15, 2012, where he served until this recent elevation.

The administrative process for his assumption of office has already been scheduled by the court administration. According to Md. Shafiqul Islam, the Chief Justice will administer the oath of office to the newly appointed Appellate Division judge coming up this Sunday at 9:30 AM.

The solemn swearing-in ceremony for Justice Md. Habibul Gani is set to take place within the formal setting of the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge. Following this scheduled oath-taking event on Sunday morning, the newly appointed judge will officially commence his duties as a member of the five-judge bench on the Appellate Division.
