July Uprising Victim Testifies at International Crimes Tribunal
Md. Ratul Hasan, who suffered severe gunshot wounds in Dhaka's Rampura area during the July mass uprising, has given his testimony. He appeared at the International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Thursday as the 12th witness in the case.
During the historic July mass uprising that swept across Bangladesh, a civilian named Md. Ratul Hasan became a victim of violent suppression when he was shot in the left leg in the Rampura area of Dhaka. The incident left a lasting physical impact on him, specifically causing his bone to erode by about an inch and a half while also shattering it completely.
Seeking justice for the atrocities committed during this turbulent period, Md. Ratul Hasan appeared before the judicial authorities on Thursday. He formally provided his eyewitness testimony at the International Crimes Tribunal-1, marking a significant legal development in the ongoing proceedings related to the July uprising.
During the court session held at the tribunal in Dhaka, Md. Ratul Hasan testified as the 12th witness in the case. His detailed account before the judicial panel adds crucial firsthand evidence regarding the events that transpired in the Rampura locality when protesters and citizens faced armed crackdowns.
The judicial proceedings at the International Crimes Tribunal-1 specifically involve four accused individuals connected to the events of the mass uprising. The defendants named in the legal case are Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Redwanul Islam, Md. Rafat-Bin-Alam Mun, Md. Rashedul Islam, and Md. Mashiur Rahman.
Regarding the current legal status of the four accused individuals, authorities have confirmed varying circumstances of their detention and whereabouts. Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Redwanul Islam and Md. Rafat-Bin-Alam Mun have been arrested and are currently being held in a sub-jail inside a cantonment.
Meanwhile, the remaining two accused individuals in the case, identified as Md. Rashedul Islam and Md. Mashiur Rahman, have not been captured by law enforcement agencies. According to the official records presented before the International Crimes Tribunal-1, both Rashedul and Mashiur currently remain fugitives from justice.
