Journalist Threatened with Death by Anonymous Letter in Kushtia
Journalist Md Hasan Imam has received a death threat via an anonymous letter sent under the name of 'Towhidi Janata' in Kushtia's Bheramara. A general diary has been filed at the local police station regarding the incident.
A journalist working in the media has reportedly been targeted with a death threat delivered through an anonymous letter in Kushtia's Bheramara upazila. The incident has raised serious safety concerns for media professionals operating within the region, prompting an immediate official response from law enforcement authorities.
The victim has been identified as journalist Md Hasan Imam, who is also known by his name Hasan Imam Rubel. According to the available details, Mr. Imam is affiliated with several prominent news outlets including Jago News, Prothom Alo, Channel 24, and Newsbangla.
Detailing the disturbing incident, journalist Hasan Imam Rubel explained the context of his visit and the manner in which the threat was delivered. He stated that he had returned to his rural family home after a long period of time to spend time with his family members. However, early in the morning, an ordinary envelope was pushed underneath the main gate of his residence.
The letter inside the envelope carried explicit death threats against the journalist and was issued under the banner of a group calling itself 'Towhidi Janata'. Deeply concerned for the safety and security of his household, the journalist took immediate legal action by officially informing the local administration about the matter.
Following the formal complaint, a general diary (GD) was lodged at the Bheramara police station on August 26, 2026. In response to the filing, law enforcement officials promptly visited the journalist's residence to assess the situation and gather preliminary details surrounding the delivery of the threatening correspondence.
Expressing his urgent concerns following the police visit, journalist Hasan Imam Rubel demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. He emphasized the necessity for law enforcement to uncover the true origin of the threatening letter and to definitively identify the individuals or groups involved in orchestrating the intimidation tactic against him.
