Jkkniu Begins Three-Day Programme Marking Nazrul's 50th Death Anniversary
Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University inaugurated a three-day programme on August 27 to mark the 50th death anniversary of the national poet. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain paid tribute virtually as he was outside the campus.
Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (Jkkniu) in Mymensingh has officially commenced a comprehensive three-day programme to observe the 50th death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The commemorative events began on the morning of August 27 with floral wreaths being placed at the university's Nazrul sculpture by various members of the university community.
Although Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain was outside the campus at the time of the inaugural events, he actively participated by joining the proceedings online to pay his profound respects to the revered national poet. His virtual presence ensured institutional leadership during the opening of the solemn remembrance.
National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam passed away on August 29 in the year 1976, leaving behind a monumental legacy in Bengali literature and music. The current three-day observance at Jkkniu serves to honour his enduring cultural and historical contributions, bringing together students, faculty, and administrative bodies.
The commemorative events draw participation from numerous departments, faculties, and organizations within the university. These include the English Language and Literature Department, the Faculty of Law, the Nazrul Death Anniversary Observance Committee-2026, and the Bangla Language and Literature Department.
Additional university entities contributing to the three-day programme comprise the Teachers Association, the Management Department, the Institute of Nazrul Studies, and the Employees Association. Further involvement is marked by the Employees Union, Jatiyatabadi Chhatradal, and the Office of the Student Advice and Guidance.
A broad representation of individuals is associated with the university community during this period, including Mohammad Emdadul Huda, Muhammad Irfan Aziz, Khandaker Nazmul Hasan, Mo Habibul Mawla (Mawla Prince), Md Shafiqul Islam, Mohammad Tarikul Islam Joni, and Mota Azizur Rahman. Other notable figures listed are Rashedul Anam, Md Nazrul Islam, Harunur Rashid, Md Habibur Rahman, Mamun Sarkar, Md Ashraful Alam, and Md Abdul Hakim, reflecting the widespread institutional participation in honouring the late national poet's 50th death anniversary.
