Jahangirnagar Theatre has organized a two-day street play titled 'Until They Answer' at Jahangirnagar University in Savar to protest against women's insecurity, violence, and the lack of justice for crimes. The cultural event and accompanying press conference took place on August 31, 2026, drawing attention from the university community regarding pressing social issues concerning campus safety and administrative accountability.
The street play has been written and directed by Topu Chandra Das, who utilized the theatrical medium to address recurring cycles of violence and impunity within society. Alongside Topu Chandra Das, other individuals associated with the event and the organization include Tanzin Nusrat Muna, Jannatul Ferdous Riya, Sheikh Mohammad Sobuj, and Arman Siddiqui, representing the active members of Jahangirnagar Theatre at the university.
Highlighting the core message and the grim reality behind the recurring protests, playwright and director Topu Chandra Das delivered a poignant statement during the proceedings. He explained the motivation behind the theatrical production by stating that crimes occur and movements follow, but the movements eventually stop while remaining unresolved, leading to subsequent crimes.
Elaborating further on the continuous cycle of injustice, Topu Chandra Das noted that the names of students are continually added to the black ledger of impunity one after another. He emphasized that the play serves as a form of cultural protest directed specifically against women's insecurity and the indifference of the administration in carrying out their responsibilities.
Through this two-day exhibition, Jahangirnagar Theatre aims to raise critical questions and challenge the prevailing system that allows crimes to go unpunished. The initiative underscores the role of student-led cultural organizations at Jahangirnagar University in demanding systemic change, institutional transparency, and absolute safety for women through artistic expression and public engagement.
