Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on Health and Family Welfare Minister Sarder Md. Sakhawat Hossain at the Secretariat in Dhaka on August 20. During the meeting at the government offices, the two officials addressed several bilateral matters and recent tragic developments affecting citizens of both nations, marking an important diplomatic engagement between India and Bangladesh.

A primary focus of the discussion was the recent devastating residential hotel fire located on Mirza Ghalib Street near the New Market area in Kolkata. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of seven Bangladeshi citizens, including a child. Quoting his commitment during the meeting, the high commissioner stated that the Indian side will do everything that is required to address the aftermath of the tragedy.

Specifically, the Indian government side formally extended an invitation for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India, highlighting the ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and high-level communications between the neighboring countries.
