IMED Flags Issues in 30 Development Projects Amid Contractor Flaws
State Minister for Planning Junaid Abdur Rahim Saki told the national parliament that IMED identified problems in 30 projects. The inspections aim to curb contractor negligence and substandard infrastructure work.
The Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the Ministry of Planning has identified various problems in the infrastructure construction work of 30 development projects. This initiative was specifically undertaken to prevent contractor negligence and substandard work in government development projects across the country, ensuring better implementation and accountability.
State Minister for Planning Junaid Abdur Rahim Saki officially disclosed this crucial information while addressing the third session of the Jatiya Sangsad, the national parliament located in Dhaka, on August 27, 2026. His parliamentary address detailed the ongoing oversight activities and evaluation measures being carried out by the government bodies to monitor public expenditure and project execution.
Providing a broader statistical overview of the monitoring activities, the planning ministry revealed extensive inspection data. During the 2025-26 fiscal year, the IMED conducted physical inspections of 677 ongoing development projects. Following these comprehensive field visits, IMED successfully compiled and submitted detailed recommendation-inclusive reports covering 640 of those inspected projects during that same fiscal year.
The rigorous inspection regime continued seamlessly into the new fiscal period. In the month of July of the current 2026-27 financial year alone, IMED officials inspected 47 active projects. Out of these July inspections, recommendation-inclusive reports regarding 27 projects were formally forwarded to the relevant authorities for corrective actions and policy considerations.
Furthermore, the monitoring scope extended well beyond ongoing endeavors to encompass finished initiatives. Up to July of the current year, a staggering total of 1,085 completed development projects had been inspected by the division. Concurrently, 1,024 completion evaluation reports containing vital assessments have been submitted by the monitoring body.
These extensive evaluation efforts operate within a massive national development framework. Official statistics confirm that a total of 1,163 projects are currently active and moving forward under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the ongoing 2026-27 fiscal year, necessitating continuous oversight by the planning ministry and associated evaluation divisions.
