Foreign Firearms and Ammunition Recovered from Naf River in Teknaf

Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel operating under BCG Station Teknaf have successfully conducted a security drive along the Naf River located in Cox's Bazar, resulting in the significant recovery of foreign weaponry and military-grade ammunition. During the operation, which took place on August 19, the maritime security force intercepted a suspicious wooden boat traveling through the transboundary river.

Upon thoroughly searching the intercepted wooden vessel, the Coast Guard members discovered and seized a cache of weaponry consisting of two foreign-made firearms alongside their corresponding magazines. In addition to the firearms, security personnel recovered a substantial quantity of live ammunition totaling 232 rounds.

A detailed breakdown of the seized ammunition provided by the maritime agency reveals that the cache included 229 rounds of fresh rifle ammunition. Furthermore, the recovery comprised two rounds of live pistol ammunition along with one round of blank pistol ammunition, indicating the operational readiness of the materials aboard the vessel.

Despite the successful seizure of the weaponry and ammunition from the wooden boat, law enforcement personnel were unable to apprehend any individuals connected to the shipment. Authorities confirmed that no arrests were made during the course of the August 19 maritime operation in the Teknaf border region.

Addressing the ongoing security measures in the area, Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon issued a formal statement highlighting the strategic importance of the operation. He emphasized that the Coast Guard will maintain its vigilance to ensure regional stability.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon stated, "Operations of this nature by the Coast Guard will continue in order to maintain a stable law and order situation in the country and to prevent the activities of terrorist groups in the border areas."
