The cultural and artistic community in Kushtia, Bangladesh, is observing the solemn first death anniversary of legendary Lalon singer Farida Parveen on September 13, 2025. The momentous occasion marks one year since the passing of the iconic vocalist, who left an indelible mark on the musical heritage of the nation through her profound interpretations of mystic songs associated with Lalon Sain.

Farida Parveen was born on December 31, 1954, in the village of Shaol under Singra upazila in Natore district. Her early life and upbringing in rural Bangladesh laid the foundation for a lifelong dedication to traditional folk music, eventually establishing her as one of the most prominent cultural figures of her generation.

Over the course of her illustrious musical career, the celebrated artist received numerous prestigious accolades both at home and abroad for her extraordinary contributions to the arts. In 1987, she was honored with the Ekushey Padak, one of the highest civilian awards bestowed by the government of Bangladesh, in recognition of her monumental role in preserving and promoting traditional folk music.

Her enduring artistic excellence was further recognized nationally when she earned the Bangladesh National Film Award in 1993. Her distinct vocal style and deep spiritual connection to the lyrical traditions of Lalon Sain captivated audiences across generations and genres, cementing her status as a cultural treasure.

International recognition followed in 2008 when the Government of Japan honored her with the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize. This distinguished accolade celebrated her vital role in fostering Asian cultural exchange and preserving the rich heritage of traditional Bengali music on the global stage.

Despite her passing on September 13, 2025, following a prolonged struggle with kidney complications, her artistic legacy continues to resonate strongly among admirers and scholars of folk music. As Kushtia and the rest of Bangladesh remember her on this first death anniversary, her lifelong dedication to the songs of Lalon Sain remains a source of profound national pride.
