Dhaka Podatik Stages Trial of Surya Sen at Mohila Samity
The theater troupe Dhaka Podatik has staged the 47th performance of its production 'Trial of Surya Sen'. The historical play, written and directed by the late Masum Aziz, was showcased at the Mohila Samity Auditorium on Tuesday, September 22.

'Trial of Surya Sen' stands as the 38th production of Dhaka Podatik. The play is fundamentally based on the history of the anti-British movement, bringing crucial historical figures and events of the freedom struggle back to the modern stage for contemporary audiences to witness and appreciate.
The original script and direction of the drama were crafted by Ekushey Padak-winning artist Masum Aziz. Following his passing, actor Naeder Chowdhury took on the responsibility of re-directing the production, implementing necessary artistic embellishments and updates to the performance while preserving its core historical integrity.
Reflecting on the significance of the production, Naeder Chowdhury, who also portrays the legendary revolutionary Masterda Surya Sen in the play, shared his perspective. He noted that 'Trial of Surya Sen' is an important historical drama depicting the anti-British movement, and emphasized that the current generation should undoubtedly watch this historical production.
Since its premiere on January 18, 2018, the play has maintained an active staging schedule and achieved international reach. Notably, the production has previously been showcased outside Bangladesh, successfully staging two international performances in Delhi, India.
The theatrical performance features a vast array of roles, encompassing nearly 40 characters portrayed by a large ensemble cast. The performing members and associated individuals involved with the production and its broader presentation include Pritilata Waddedar, Masterda Surya Sen, Masum Aziz, Naeder Chowdhury, Mahbuba Haque Kumkum, Monjurul Islam Nantu, Sabiha Zaman, Mamun Ur Rashid, Shyamal Hasan, Akhter Hossain, Rabiul Milton, Shahnaz Parveen Joya, Tarek Ali Milon, Kazi Samrat, Atikur Rahman, Al Amin Swapan, Suman Ghosh, Nur, Khaja Hujjatullah, Zahid, Zakaria Kiran, and Abul Bashar Sohel, alongside organizations such as Dhaka Podatik and Itihas O Oitijjo Porishod.
