Expelled NCP Leader Beaten Up After Facebook Live in Brahmanbaria

On 14 August 2026, expelled NCP leader Asad Khokon was reportedly beaten up, rendered unconscious, and subsequently handed over to the police in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh. The incident unfolded at Haripur Rajbari during a boat trip and picnic organized by the local platform 'Oikya-baddha Brahmanbaria Sadar'. According to confirmed reports from the area, the confrontation erupted after Khokon conducted a Facebook live broadcast from the historical site.

Saber Hossain, one of the event participants, provided a detailed account of the events leading up to the physical assault. According to Hossain, Asad Khokon frequently utilized social media platforms to criticize the government as well as Abdul Hannan, the Member of Parliament representing the Brahmanbaria-1 constituency. Hossain noted that although Khokon originates from Nasirnagar, he primarily resides in the Brahmanbaria urban area. On the day of the incident, Khokon accompanied the group to Nasirnagar for the boat trip and picnic, during which he initiated the live broadcast. Hossain stated that upon seeing the broadcast, BNP activists arrived at the scene, launched a three-phase physical attack on Khokon, left him bloodied, and asserted that the assault was directly motivated by his political criticism of the MP.

In contrast, K. M. Bashir Uddin Tuhin offered a different perspective regarding the altercation at Haripur Rajbari. According to Tuhin, the violence was preceded by a verbal argument between Khokon and local residents. Tuhin explicitly denied that his group's members were involved in the physical beating that followed the verbal dispute.

Mohammad Shahinul Islam, representing law enforcement authorities, provided further details regarding the aftermath of the violence at Haripur Rajbari. Islam explained that local residents had grown angry with Khokon due to various posts he had published on Facebook, suggesting that this widespread public frustration may have triggered the attack. Islam confirmed that after Khokon was beaten up and taken into a room by the attackers, he was eventually handed over to the Nasirnagar police station. Police administered primary treatment to Khokon for his injuries. Notably, despite enduring the severe beating and losing consciousness, Asad Khokon did not file any formal written complaints against anyone involved.

As the events unfolded in Nasirnagar on 14 August 2026, it was also confirmed that M. A. Hannan, the Member of Parliament whose local governance and policies were the subject of Khokon's social media criticisms, was out of the country performing Umrah at the time of the assault. The incident has drawn attention involving multiple local political figures and organizations, including members of the BNP, Chhatradol, and Jubadal, alongside the organizers from 'Oikya-baddha Brahmanbaria Sadar', as authorities ultimately released Khokon into the custody of his family in the absence of a written legal accusation.
