DMP Relocates Mohakhali Buses to Purbachal and Targets Unfit Vehicles

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) traffic division has initiated a crucial special operation aimed at relocating waiting buses from the busy Mohakhali bus terminal to a newly established temporary depot in Purbachal. This strategic operational shift, which took place on September 1, is designed to systematically tackle long-standing traffic congestion and commuter difficulties in the area. Alongside the relocation effort, law enforcement agencies have ramped up intensive enforcement drives specifically targeting unfit, hazardous, and ramshackle vehicles operating on the capital's streets.

Highlighting the uncompromising stance of the administration against hazardous transport, official statistics reveal significant enforcement actions taken in recent months. Traffic authorities filed 119 formal cases against rule-breaking vehicles in the month of June alone, followed by an increased tally of 171 cases in July. Building upon these ongoing regulatory measures, approximately 40 vehicles that have outlived their economic life spans and possess expired fitness documents have been officially handed over to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

Demonstrating the severity of the ongoing crackdown, an official confirmation noted that out of the transferred fleet, 18 vehicles have already been completely scrapped under the official BRTA scrapping policy. These measures underscore the administration's strict intolerance toward substandard transport networks operating within the metropolitan boundaries, aiming to permanently clear the thoroughfares of dilapidated buses that pose safety risks to the public.

Addressing the rationale and strict parameters of the ongoing campaign, official spokesperson Mo. Anisur Rahman stated firmly that vehicles lacking proper fitness certifications will strictly not be permitted to operate on public roads. Furthermore, he emphasized that even if a vehicle technically possesses a fitness certificate but its actual physical condition remains poor, it will still be barred from operation, declaring that no rickety, dilapidated vehicles will be allowed on Dhaka streets.

Elaborating further on the operational objectives and logistical arrangements, Mo. Anisur Rahman explained that the primary purpose of the comprehensive drive is to restore much-needed discipline within the terminal area and guarantee smooth, unhindered movement for ordinary passengers. He added that necessary infrastructural facilities have been properly ensured at the Purbachal temporary depot, while earnestly urging the full cooperation of all bus owners and drivers.
