Dhamrai Flyover Construction Halted Due to Land Issues

Construction work on the Kawalipara Bazar flyover, located in Dhamrai under Dhaka, has been officially suspended due to ongoing land acquisition complications. The project, which originally began in late 2023, was initiated as part of the broader Tangail-Delduar-Lauhati road development project to improve regional connectivity and ease transportation for local commuters.

However, the suspension of the construction has persisted for several months, severely impacting the daily commute of local residents and travellers passing through the area. According to local accounts, the incomplete project site has caused the surrounding road to narrow significantly and develop dangerous potholes, which in turn have created severe traffic jams along this vital route.

Local commuters have voiced their frustrations regarding the prolonged gridlock caused by the halted infrastructure project. Rajon Ahmed, a local commuter, described the severity of the daily delays, stating that the congestion is often so severe that it can take anywhere from one to one and a half hours simply to clear the traffic jam at the site.

Echoing these concerns, another local resident, Suman Ahmed, emphasized the urgent need for a resolution to the ongoing delays. Urging authorities to take action, he stated that the community wants the work to be finished quickly so that residents can be spared from the immense suffering caused by the continuous traffic congestion.

Despite the significant disruptions on the ground, official sources indicate that progress is still being pursued through administrative channels. According to the Manikganj Road Division, the main structural work of the flyover has already been successfully completed, leaving the land acquisition process as the primary hurdle.

Administrative efforts to resolve the bottleneck are currently focused elsewhere within the government structure. Official records confirm that the necessary land acquisition processes required to clear the project for final completion are presently underway at the Dhaka District Commissioner's office.
