Dhaka University has taken an initiative to construct a new residential hall for its female students, which will be funded by China and named the Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall. According to the verified details of the project, the estimated cost for the construction of this much-needed hall stands at 244 crore taka. University authorities and relevant stakeholders have moved forward with the planning to materialize the initiative.

The location designated for the construction of the new Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall encompasses the area currently occupied by the university's press and the Nilkhet police outpost. These existing structures will be demolished to clear the designated land so that the construction work for the residential facility can commence smoothly at the chosen site within the campus.

Significant administrative progress has already been achieved regarding the implementation of the project. Official records confirm that the Minutes of Meeting (MoM) for the hall construction project were formally signed a few days ago, specifically on September 13, 2026, marking a vital step forward in the bilateral cooperation framework.

Once the construction work is fully completed, the newly established Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall is expected to significantly alleviate the accommodation crisis faced by the institution. The facility has been officially designed to provide proper residential and housing facilities for a total of one thousand five hundred female students of Dhaka University.

The overarching initiative involves coordination among several key institutions and officials. The stakeholders associated with the overarching developments and institutional coordination include Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Dr. Sardar Mohammad Keramat Ali, Liu Junfeng, and Mohammad Javed Alam Mridha, alongside organizations such as Dhaka University, the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), the Ministry of Education, the Planning Commission, and the Economic Relations Division (ERD).
