Dhaka University Drawing and Painting Dept Holds Annual Exhibition

The Drawing and Painting Department of Dhaka University has officially launched its highly anticipated annual art exhibition, bringing together the creative works of talented young artists within the academic community. The opening ceremony took place on August 24, drawing significant attention from faculty members, students, and art enthusiasts alike. Held at the prestigious Zainul Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University, the exhibition serves as a vital platform for students to showcase their artistic vision, technical skills, and creative expression to the broader public.

This year's exhibition features a diverse and impressive collection of pieces created by 72 students from the department. Through a wide array of mediums and techniques, the participating students have presented works that reflect their rigorous training, individual perspectives, and deep engagement with contemporary artistic practices. The exhibition space has been transformed into a vibrant gallery that highlights the evolving talents nurtured within the academic environment of Dhaka University's Faculty of Fine Arts.

As part of the annual event, the department also recognized exceptional talent by honoring several participants. Across various categories, a total of 13 students were awarded for their outstanding artistic achievements. These awards aim to celebrate dedication, originality, and excellence in studio practice, encouraging the recipients to continue pushing the boundaries of their creative endeavors within the department.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by notable academic figures and university officials, including Professor Abdus Salam, Professor Mohammad Iqbal Ali, and Professor Md. Azharul Islam Sheikh. Their presence underscored the institutional support for the arts and the importance of fostering young creative minds within the university framework. Numerous other individuals, including Mynul Abedin, Rakin Nawar, Jhalak Saha, Saikat Kumar Mistri, Niha Rani Das, Mst. Momenun Nesa Surma, Abhijit Chandra Dey, Tasnim Tareq Turna, Md. Fahim Chowdhury, Al-Furkan Nayan, Nairita Pal Krishna, Mong Sonai Rakhine, Debajyoti Barshan, Shashwat Majumdar Kabyo, and Priyas Das, are also associated with the department's academic and creative community.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Abdus Salam highlighted the global recognition achieved by the institution's educators. He stated that many teachers of Fine Arts have earned international awards. Furthermore, he noted that through various events, including the traditional Bengali New Year celebrations, the Faculty of Fine Arts plays an important role in preserving the heritage of the country.

Expanding on the historical and social impact of the institution, Professor Abdus Salam further remarked that the Faculty of Fine Arts has played a unique role in various democratic movements of the country, including the historic Language Movement, the Great War of Liberation, the mass uprising of the 1990s, and the mass uprising of 2024. Emphasizing the value of such academic showcases, he added that such arrangements every year make students more energetic and hardworking.
