Dhaka University Disciplines Student Leaders Over AI Use in Exams

Dhaka University administration has taken formal disciplinary action against two student leaders who were found to have used artificial intelligence-based services during university examinations. The verified incidents of academic malpractice involved members associated with the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal student organization as well as a hall parliament, prompting a swift institutional response from the higher education institution.

According to the official records provided by the university administration, the measures were officially enacted following a formal deliberation process by the university's disciplinary council and the highest policymaking body. The specifics of the punishment involve barring both of the implicated student leaders from participating in upcoming academic examinations for varying lengths of time, reflecting the seriousness with which the institution views technological cheating.

The formal decision regarding the penalties was adopted during a crucial meeting of the university syndicate, which took place on August 31. During this session, the governing body reviewed the findings concerning the artificial intelligence-based exam violations and concluded that the actions warranted official sanctions against the student leaders representing the student organization and the hall parliament.

Following the conclusions reached at the August 31 syndicate meeting, the university administration moved to formalize the directive. The formal implementation of the disciplinary measures was subsequently communicated through an official administrative order issued a week later, on September 7, ensuring that the relevant academic departments and examination authorities were formally notified of the bans.

The September 7 administrative order detailing the disciplinary actions was duly signed and promulgated by Dr. Himadri Shekhar Chakraborty, who serves in the official capacity of the acting controller of examinations at Dhaka University. With the issuance of this signed order, the punitive measures restricting the two student leaders from academic examinations became formally effective across the institution.
