Dhaka Ranks 6th Globally in Air Quality Index on August 25
Dhaka recorded an Air Quality Index score of 122 on the morning of August 25, placing the capital sixth on the global list of cities with polluted air. International air quality monitoring organizations released the rankings, which highlighted worsening conditions across multiple major cities worldwide.
On the morning of August 25, Dhaka experienced an escalation in air pollution, securing the sixth position globally on the Air Quality Index (AQI) rankings. According to data recorded at 9:07 AM, the capital of Bangladesh registered an AQI score of 122, placing it firmly within the category that international monitoring agencies designate as unhealthy for sensitive groups.
International air quality monitoring organizations track these daily metrics to assess urban pollution levels worldwide. The standardized AQI scale categorizes scores between 101 and 150 specifically as sensitive-group unhealthy, meaning that individuals with respiratory issues, children, and older adults in Dhaka faced potential health risks during the morning hours of August 25.
Topping the global list on August 25 was the city of Kuching in Malaysia, which recorded a significantly higher and more severe air quality index score of 188. Following Kuching at the very top of the rankings, other major international urban centers also registered high pollution levels that placed them ahead of Dhaka on the global index.
Specifically, Kuala Lumpur claimed the second position globally with an AQI score of 176, while Jakarta occupied the third spot with a score of 163. Lahore followed closely behind in fourth place with a recorded score of 160, and Kampala rounded out the top five most polluted cities on the list with an AQI score of 156.
Further down the global rankings for August 25, cities immediately following Dhaka included Santiago in seventh place with an AQI score of 119, and Kinshasa in eighth place with a score of 117. Rounding out the top ten monitored locations were Dubai in ninth position with an AQI score of 117, and Riyadh in tenth place with a score of 115.
