Dhaka College Students Demand Cancellation of Politically Allocated Hall Seats

On August 25, 2026, general students of Dhaka College organized a press conference in front of the Shaheed Minar located on the Dhaka College campus in Dhaka. The event served as a platform for the student body to voice severe grievances regarding the current residential management system within the institution's dormitories, drawing significant attention from the campus community.
During the press conference, the protesting students raised serious allegations regarding the allocation process for residential hall seats at Dhaka College. They claimed that the current distribution system is entirely compromised, bypassing deserving candidates in favor of individuals backed by external and political influence, which they argue deprives genuine students of their basic residential rights.
Highlighting the specifics of the alleged corruption, student representative Salman Sharif detailed the discrepancies observed during the recent distribution of dormitory accommodations. According to his statement, applications were initially submitted through respective academic departments, after which the Dhaka College administration published the official list of seat allocations.
Salman Sharif explicitly stated that the students who received genuine departmental recommendations were entirely deprived of rooms. Instead, he alleged that approximately 90 percent of the total hall seats were allocated based on recommendations from various ministers or individuals with specific political identities.
Furthermore, Sharif pointed out that the remaining 10 percent of the residential seats were distributed under the identities of various social organizations rather than on the basis of legitimate academic need. Following these revelations, the students formally demanded the immediate cancellation of the current seat allocation list.
In addition to demanding the cancellation of the politically influenced seat allocations, the students at the August 25 press conference urged the Dhaka College administration to take urgent action to resolve the chronic accommodation crisis on campus by constructing new residential halls for the general student body.
