Deputy Speaker urges ministers to keep quiet in parliament
During a parliamentary session on Monday, the Deputy Speaker directed two ministers to speak softly. The intervention came while a female lawmaker was addressing the house.
On Monday, the Jatiya Sangsad in Dhaka witnessed a moment of parliamentary intervention when the Deputy Speaker had to instruct cabinet ministers to maintain silence. The incident took place inside the national parliament building during a scheduled discussion on notices concerning urgent matters of public importance.
While proceedings were underway, reserved-seat Member of Parliament Selina Sultana took the floor to deliver her speech. However, as she addressed the house, ongoing conversations among senior government members began to create disruptions in the legislative chamber.
The disturbances were traced directly to Minister for Religious Affairs Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad and State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam. The two ministers were engaged in conversation while the female lawmaker was attempting to deliver her address to the parliament.
Noticing the disturbance and the difficulty it caused in following the ongoing speech, Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal intervened from the presiding chair. He directly addressed the cabinet members to restore order within the chamber so that the proceedings could continue without hindrance.
Directing his instructions to the two ministers, the Deputy Speaker stated, "Please speak softly." He further elaborated on his directive by requesting them to take their seats and lower their voices, noting that another parliamentarian was speaking behind them.
Reiterating his instruction for the second time to ensure compliance, Kaiser Kamal explicitly said, "Respected Religious Affairs Minister and respected LGRD State Minister, please sit down and talk slowly so that we can hear her speech." The intervention successfully brought back order to the national parliament during the crucial discussion.
