Customs Intelligence Seizes Duty-Free Board Illegally Sold in Dhaka
Customs Intelligence has seized duty-free duplex board meant for Khulna while it was being illegally sold in Dhaka's Nayabazar area. The consignment, totaling approximately 81 tons, was intercepted after trucks deviated from their designated route from Chittagong port.
In a significant crackdown on customs evasion, the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has intercepted a large quantity of duty-free imported materials that were being diverted for illegal sale in the capital. The operation targeted a substantial consignment of duplex board that had been granted duty-free import privileges under specific bonding facilities.
According to the verified details of the operation, the total imported consignment amounted to approximately 81 tons of duplex board. Official records and shipping directives stated that these materials were originally meant to be transported directly to the designated destination of Khulna following their arrival through the port of Chittagong.
However, the transport operation deviated significantly from its official trajectory. Instead of heading toward Khulna, a convoy consisting of 10 paper-laden trucks changed its route and entered the Nayabazar area located in the old part of Dhaka, where the duty-free goods were intended to be sold unlawfully.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding the route violation and illicit commercial activity, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation team moved in to conduct a raid at the location in Dhaka. During the course of the operation, authorities managed to detain one of the paper-laden trucks involved in the diversion.
Despite the successful interception of one vehicle, the operation encountered a setback when another truck belonging to the 10-vehicle convoy managed to escape from the scene before law enforcement could secure it. The authorities are continuing their oversight into the matter involving the agencies such as the NBR and CID.
