Chittagong Book Reading Awards Celebrate 13,000 Student Participants

On Friday morning, the GEC Convention Center in Chittagong city hosted a grand award distribution ceremony for the nationwide book reading program organized by Bishwo Shahitto Kendro. This prominent cultural and educational organization has been successfully running its extensive book reading initiative across the country for an impressive forty-eight years, fostering a culture of literature and learning among the youth.
The event witnessed the participation of esteemed dignitaries, including the Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Additionally, Md. Billal Hossain Khan, the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, was present at the ceremony to encourage the young readers and support the educational initiative.
During the 2025 academic year, approximately 13,000 students hailing from 101 secondary schools across Chittagong city actively took part in this inspiring book reading program. Out of these numerous participants, a remarkable total of 5,896 students who demonstrated exceptional merit and earned achievements through the program were officially rewarded at the ceremony.
This ongoing regional event is part of a much broader national framework operated by Bishwo Shahitto Kendro. Across the entire country, the organization currently engages roughly 150,000 students enrolled in about 1,400 secondary schools, continuously working to expand literary horizons and promote intellectual growth among the younger generations.
The collaborative efforts of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro and supporting government bodies like the Ministry of Cultural Affairs highlight the sustained commitment to youth development through education.
