Customs Uncovers Luxury Cars Disguised as Parts at Mongla Port
Customs intelligence in Bangladesh has detected four luxury vehicles imported under the guise of used spare parts at Mongla Port. Meanwhile, Mutual Trust Bank has announced plans to issue a 500 crore BDT bond to strengthen its capital base.

On July 19, 2026, customs intelligence authorities in Bangladesh successfully uncovered an elaborate attempt to illegally import four high-end luxury vehicles into the country. The restricted and undeclared automobiles were discovered at Mongla Port, where they had been deliberately misdeclared and disguised as ordinary used spare parts to bypass standard regulatory checks, duties, and import controls.
According to the verified findings from the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (CIID), the intercepted shipment actually contained four complete, semi-knocked-down (SKD) luxury motor vehicles rather than the declared automotive components. The specific luxury models identified in the port consignment include a 2017 Range Rover Vogue, a 2010 BMW 650i, a 2016 Lexus LX570, and a Toyota Crown Athlete.
Official documentation regarding the fraudulent import consignment points to a Dhaka-based business entity and a regional logistics facilitator. The importer of record for the shipment is Crown Auto Mobile Services, located in Gendaria, Dhaka, while the clearing and forwarding (C&F) responsibilities were handled by ST International, based in Khulna.
In a separate financial development reported on the same date, Mutual Trust Bank (MTB) has announced a major corporate decision to bolster its financial standing. The commercial bank has formally resolved to issue a seven-year subordinated bond valued at 500 crore BDT, which will be structured either as an Islamic Shariah-compliant instrument or as a conventional bond designed to enhance the institution's Tier-2 capital.
