Comilla University Introduces Bus Cards to Prevent Seat Hoarding

Comilla University has initiated measures to introduce a bus card system in an effort to curb irregularities and stop the practice of students occupying seats by leaving personal belongings behind on university buses. The transport pool of Comilla University is spearheading this administrative effort to streamline the daily commute for enrolled students.

Presently, Comilla University operates a total of twenty-five buses to facilitate the transportation of its students across routes. This existing fleet comprises twelve blue buses, three minibuses, and an additional ten buses rented from the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) to meet the travel demands of the academic community.

Despite the available fleet, university authorities have noted persistent complaints regarding students reserving multiple seats by placing various personal items on them. Items such as hair clips, mobile covers, broken bottles, scissors, leaves, pens, and polythene bags are frequently left behind to hold seats, causing inconvenience to fellow passengers.

Addressing the upcoming rollout, Professor Dr. Md. Maksودul Karim stated, 'I have already held a meeting regarding this matter with the member secretary of the transport pool in the presence of the pro-vice-chancellor. A notice has also been prepared. The notice will be sent to the deans, and subsequently, the deans will discuss it with the departmental chairmen, who will then inform the students.'

Dr. Karim further added, 'We will arrange to launch the bus cards very soon. Letters for the bus cards will be sent to all departments next week itself. Students will be requested not to occupy bus seats using hair clips, mobile covers, broken bottles, scissors, or any such materials.'

Elaborating on the broader objectives of the initiative, Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan noted, 'We are trying to introduce a transport card to make the transport services for students more disciplined. Once the card is introduced, a student will not be able to occupy an extra seat. The tendency to hold seats by leaving bottles, leaves, pens, polythene, and various other things will also be stopped. At the same time, this initiative will be useful in controlling passengers getting on the buses who are not students of Comilla University.'
