CID Seeks 7-Day Remand for Actor Don Over Salman Shah Death
Bangladesh's CID has sought a seven-day remand for actor Ashraful Haque Don in connection with the 1996 death of film star Salman Shah. A Dhaka court has scheduled the hearing for August 27.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh has officially moved to place film actor Ashraful Haque Don on a seven-day remand. The legal action is tied to the high-profile and long-standing investigation surrounding the death of renowned cinema actor Mohammad Shahriyar Emon, popularly known as Salman Shah.
Salman Shah passed away years ago on September 6, 1996, triggering decades of public interest and judicial scrutiny regarding the exact circumstances of his demise. The investigation has continued to see procedural developments as law enforcement authorities examine various individuals linked to the case over the history of the inquiry.
The sequence leading to the current remand petition began earlier in the month of August. Specifically, immigration police detained the antagonist film actor Ashraful Haque Don at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 9, taking him into official custody before handing the matter over to the investigating authorities.
Following the arrest, the designated CID investigation officer, Mujibur Rahman, formally submitted a petition to the judicial authorities. On Thursday, August 20, the investigator applied to place Don under a seven-day police remand to facilitate further interrogation regarding the 1996 incident.
The legal proceedings advanced when the matter reached the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court for judicial review. Magistrate Jewel Rana formally reviewed the application and subsequently set the date for the remand hearing for the upcoming Thursday, August 27, when arguments regarding the custody request will be heard.
