The Environment Department has taken strict administrative action against a ship recycling facility in Chittagong, Bangladesh, imposing a fine of five lakh taka. The penalty was officially issued to Ferdous Steel Ship Recycling Industries following a formal hearing held by the regional office of the Environment Department on 19 August.

On 14 August, nine workers tragically lost their lives due to gas poisoning while cutting up a vessel named the 'MT Rasi'.
