A special operation was conducted to clear unauthorized fishing gear from the main shipping channel and outer anchorage of Chittagong Port, according to official updates released on August 22. The coordinated enforcement effort targeted illegal installations that posed potential hazards to maritime navigation and commercial shipping traffic operating within the critical port zone.

During the course of the operation, authorities successfully seized and removed a total of 12,000 meters of illegal fishing nets. In addition to the extensive quantities of netting, enforcement personnel also confiscated various associated equipment and apparatus that had been unlawfully deployed within the designated shipping routes and outer anchorage areas.

The joint operation was executed with the active participation of several maritime assets and enforcement units. The Chittagong Port Authority deployed its vessel Kandari-12 alongside four local boats to support the clearance work, while the Bangladesh Coast Guard contributed a dedicated ship to bolster security and operational capacity during the sweep.

Following the successful removal of the unauthorized gear from the shipping channel and outer anchorage, all of the seized nets and associated equipment were gathered and subsequently destroyed by burning. The decisive action underscores ongoing efforts by port officials and national maritime security forces to maintain safe and unobstructed navigation channels for commercial vessels entering and departing Chittagong Port.
