A special cleaning initiative aimed at clearing and maintaining ponds has officially been launched in the port city of Chittagong. The campaign got underway on Saturday afternoon with a formal inauguration event held at the Kazi Bari pond located in the Kazir Dewri area of the city.

The inauguration event brought together several notable figures, including Dr. Md. Ziauddin, Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, and Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali. Representatives from the local district administration and the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) were also present to mark the commencement of the environmental drive.

Speaking during the event, Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah highlighted the overarching vision of the initiative by stating, "Let us clean cities and villages, and build an aesthetic Chittagong." His remarks set a community-focused tone for the ongoing conservation efforts in the area.

Delivering further remarks at the inauguration, Dr. Md. Ziauddin emphasized the necessity of public involvement in maintaining urban ecology. He stated that it is not possible to build a clean city or society solely through government initiatives, noting that every citizen must play a responsible role from their respective positions.

Highlighting the ecological significance of these water bodies, Dr. Ziauddin added that ponds are an important part of the city's environment and biodiversity. He called upon everyone to step forward from their individual positions to keep the local ponds clean and well-maintained for the community.

As part of the ongoing program, the organizers have outlined plans for the next phases of the environmental effort. Once the cleaning process of the targeted ponds is fully completed, native species of fish fry will be released into the newly cleared waters.
