A mobile court operation in the ecologically critical area (ECA) of Tanguar Haor resulted in fines being issued against eight motorized boats. The punitive actions were taken following confirmed violations involving both unauthorized entry into the protected wetland and subsequent environmental pollution.

The enforcement action was carried out on Thursday in the Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district. According to official reports from the operation, a total of eight separate cases were filed against the offending vessels, resulting in the collection of 7,550 taka in total fines.

District Administration Executive Magistrate Md. Sabbir Hossain Shawon led the mobile court proceedings on the ground. Meanwhile, the prosecution for the cases was formally handled by Md. Saiful Islam, an inspector at the district office of the Department of Environment.

Officials confirmed that the financial penalties were levied under the provisions of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act of 1995, as amended in 2010. Specifically, the boat operators were found to have breached Section 5 of the legislation, which governs activities within designated ecologically critical zones.

Law enforcement support during the operation in the wetland region was provided by personnel from the Tahirpur police station. The joint efforts by the district administration, the Department of Environment, and local police underscore ongoing regulatory oversight to protect the fragile ecosystem of Tanguar Haor from further degradation and unauthorized commercial intrusion.
