Bdjobs Denies Data Leak Allegations After 148 CVs Published Online
Bdjobs founder and CEO Fahim Mashroor has strongly denied allegations of a major citizens' personal data leak. The denial follows reports that 148 curriculum vitae documents were published online with prices set at one thousand US dollars each.
A cybersecurity and data privacy controversy has emerged in Bangladesh following reports that personal information belonging to citizens has been compromised. Specifically, an incident involving the publication of 148 curriculum vitae documents originating from the prominent employment platform Bdjobs has come to light. According to the circulating details surrounding this digital security breach, each of the 148 published CVs has been assigned a price tag of one thousand US dollars.
Furthermore, investigators and observers tracking the incident have noted that the marketplace or individuals responsible for offering these documents have specified particular financial transaction channels. The payment methods listed for purchasing the compromised data include popular digital and international transfer services such as Paytm, Wise, PayU, and Binance. Additionally, reports indicate that the sellers set a strict limit, restricting the potential transactions to a maximum of five buyers.
In the wake of these alarming disclosures, investigative journalists from the prominent daily newspaper Prothom Alo initiated inquiries to verify the authenticity of the leaked documents. As part of their reporting, Prothom Alo successfully contacted two private sector job holders whose personal files were among the published documents. Both individuals confirmed that they had uploaded their respective curriculum vitae onto the Bdjobs platform several years prior to the current incident.
Despite the publication of the documents and the accounts provided by the affected users, the leadership of the employment platform has pushed back against the accusations. Fahim Mashroor, the founder and chief executive officer of Bdjobs, has officially denied the allegations concerning the leak of citizens' personal data. In his response addressing the security concerns, Mashroor emphasized that the organization has consistently prioritized user data security since its inception.
Elaborating on the platform's protective protocols, the Bdjobs chief executive stated that the company has implemented necessary security measures specifically designed to safeguard user information. Furthermore, Mashroor highlighted that the platform incorporates various control mechanisms allowing users to determine precisely who is authorized to view their professional profiles and who is restricted from accessing them.
