BAU VC highlights regional disadvantage due to distance from capital
Bangladesh Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sardar has stated that the institution faces deprivation from various opportunities because it is located away from the capital. He made the remarks while highlighting the university's crucial role in the nation's food and nutrition security.
Professor Dr. Md. Chowdhury Rafiqul Islam Sardar, who serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), has publicly addressed the geographical challenges and systemic disadvantages faced by the institution due to its specific location outside the nation's primary administrative center.
Speaking on the matter, the Vice-Chancellor explicitly pointed out that the university is situated in Mymensingh, which places it at a distance from the capital city. According to his assessment, this geographical separation directly results in the institution receiving fewer opportunities and experiencing various forms of deprivation compared to similar entities.
Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sardar elaborated on this disparity by contrasting the situation of the Mymensingh-based institution with other organizations that are situated in closer proximity to Dhaka. He noted that those positioned around the capital tend to secure a much higher volume of opportunities due to their advantageous positioning.
Despite these regional constraints, the Vice-Chancellor firmly emphasized the vital and undeniable contributions made by the institution. He stated that nobody can possibly deny the significant role that the Bangladesh Agricultural University consistently plays in ensuring the overall food security and nutrition security of the entire country.
In light of these acknowledged challenges and the undeniable national importance of the institution, Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sardar concluded by calling for targeted attention. He stressed that stakeholders need to keep these specific regional factors in mind and look out for the university in order to help it move forward.
