Trishal-Kanihari Road Remains Unrepaired for Eight Years

The 13-kilometre Trishal-Kanihari road, located in Trishal, Mymensingh, has remained in a severely dilapidated condition and has not undergone any repairs for the past eight years. This long-standing neglect has caused immense suffering for the local residents, daily commuters, and transport operators who rely on the vital route for their daily travel and economic activities.

According to the official timeline of the infrastructure, the road was originally under the jurisdiction of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). However, administrative control and management of the route were officially transferred from the Local Government Engineering Department to the Roads and Highways Department in the year 2018.

Despite the change in administrative authority and the passage of several years since the transfer, commuters have continued to face severe hardships due to the deteriorating road conditions. Local residents have repeatedly expressed their frustration over the prolonged delays in initiating the much-needed infrastructure development work on the affected route.

Reflecting the deep frustration shared by the local community, Abu Yahya voiced his grievances regarding the endless wait for administrative action. He stated, “We keep hearing that repair work on this road is going to start right away. That is how eight years have passed in the hope of repairs.”

Amidst the growing public demand for action, authorities have recently outlined plans to address the infrastructure crisis. The Roads and Highways Department has announced that the 13-kilometre stretch of the road within the Trishal area will be reconstructed at an estimated cost of 30 crore taka.
