Barishal DC Orders Removal of Illegal Road Structure on Port Road
Barishal's Deputy Commissioner has inspected a disputed construction project on Port Road where a shop was left in the middle of the road. He subsequently directed BIWTA to remove the structure to align with the new RCC road development.
The administration in Barishal has stepped into a growing controversy surrounding ongoing construction work on Port Road, where a shop was allegedly left standing directly in the middle of the roadway. The situation prompted an official intervention by the district administration to ensure the proper implementation of a major infrastructure project currently underway in the area.
The development initiative involves the construction of a 500-meter RCC road accompanied by comprehensive drainage systems on both sides. Financed through a significant allocation, the total cost of this vital infrastructure project is estimated at approximately 74.2 million taka, representing a substantial investment in the region's transport network and municipal facilities.
Official records indicate that the foundation stone for this ambitious 500-meter RCC road and drainage project was formally laid on the 7th of December last year. Since the commencement of the development works, concerns were raised regarding the execution of the construction while a physical structure remained situated on the pathway designated for the roadway.
In response to the situation on the ground, Barishal Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. Mamun Khandakar personally visited the Port Road location to inspect the disputed site. His on-site assessment allowed the administration to evaluate how the existing structure conflicted with the planned engineering layout of the municipal development project.
Addressing the alignment issue directly, Deputy Commissioner Md. Mamun Khandakar stated, "The structure has fallen right in the middle of the road. The road will be constructed strictly according to the road alignment. If there is any illegal structure there, it must certainly be removed." Following this inspection, he issued clear directives to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority to clear the obstruction.
The local oversight and community interest in the Port Road project also involve figures such as Md. Asaduzzaman and Nazrul Islam Khan Rajon, alongside regional advocacy groups including the Barishal Divisional Development and Interest Preservation Committee. With the district administration's intervention and the instruction given to BIWTA, authorities are expected to proceed with clearing the illegal structure so that the nearly 74.2 million taka project can advance without further obstruction.
