Bangladesh Proposes September XI Class Admissions and Starts
Authorities in Dhaka have proposed moving up the higher secondary admission process and academic start dates. Online applications are slated to begin in early September following recent SSC exam results.
Education authorities in Dhaka, Bangladesh, have formulated a proposal to advance the higher secondary admission application and class start dates for the upcoming academic year. The initiative aims to streamline the transition for students who recently completed their secondary education and ensure a structured academic calendar across the country's educational institutions.
According to the newly drafted guidelines, online applications for XI class admission are officially proposed to commence on September 2 and continue through September 10, 2026. Following the application window, the proposed schedule dictates that formal classes for the eleventh grade will officially begin on September 23, 2026. These dates have been put forward by the relevant education boards for ultimate review and implementation.
The scheduling proposals follow the publication of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examination results, which were released to the public on August 10, 2026. Data from the 11 education boards across the nation show that a total of 18,29,485 examinees participated in the assessments. Out of this total pool of candidates, 11,38,877 students successfully passed the examinations and are now eligible to seek higher secondary placement.
Addressing the timeline adjustments, Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman noted that work on the XI class admission policy is currently progressing and a formal proposal has already been submitted. He expressed optimism that the framework would be finalized soon, pointing out that the definitive policy document will be officially issued by the Ministry of Education.
Emphasizing the necessity of the changes, Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman explained that bringing discipline back to academic activities is extremely crucial. He stated that discussions specifically focused on advancing the admission procedures and class commencements to achieve this goal, and these considerations guided the drafting of the policy, though the ministry holds final decision-making authority.
Meanwhile, institutional capacity remains strong across the country to accommodate the successful candidates. Educational authorities confirm that there are approximately 25,00,000 eligible admission seats available collectively in colleges and madrassas nationwide, providing more than enough capacity for the 11,38,877 students who successfully passed their exams.
