Bangladesh Probe Ordered After Viral Video Shows Madrasa Textbooks
Authorities in Bangladesh have launched an official investigation following the emergence of a viral video. The footage allegedly shows government textbooks being sold from a local madrasa.
An official investigation committee has been formed following the emergence of a widely circulated viral video that allegedly depicts government textbooks being loaded onto a hand-trolley from an educational institution in Bangladesh.
The incident centers around the Pumbail Fazlul Ulum Karim Madrasa, located in the Ramgopalpur union of the country. According to reports and visual evidence circulating online, the controversial footage has drawn significant public attention and prompted immediate administrative action from local government officials.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Afia Amin Pappa formally confirmed the establishment of the investigation committee on Monday, August 24, to look into the circumstances surrounding the handling of the educational materials depicted in the digital recording.
Addressing the allegations, Abdul Ali Khan denied the claims of illicit textbook sales. He stated that the accusations regarding the sale of books are not true, noting that the madrasa still retains unused government textbooks for the 2025-2026 academic session on its premises. While acknowledging that the physical sample of the madrasa shown in the viral video resembles their own institution, Khan clarified that he is not certain whether the footage actually captures their specific madrasa selling books.
Adding further context to the unfolding situation, Mostafizur Rahman noted that upon viewing the video, the principal of the madrasa maintained that no books had been sold during the current year. Rahman also remarked that he could not immediately specify the exact regulations governing the sale of government textbooks, emphasizing that a formal investigation committee has now been established to uncover the actual events.
With the probe officially underway, authorities anticipate that the findings of the newly formed investigation committee will clarify the authenticity of the viral recording and determine whether any violation of official guidelines occurred regarding the government-supplied educational resources at the institution.
