Bangladesh police have arrested a local leader of the Nationalist Party (BNP) in connection with an assault on a law enforcement officer. The arrest took place on Thursday evening, March 27, 2025, in the Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district.

The detained individual has been identified as Abdul Matin, who serves as the president of Ward No. 1 within the Shyamnagar municipality. According to official police records, Matin is the sole named accused in a formal case filed at the Shyamnagar police station.

The legal proceedings stem from an incident that occurred on March 25, 2025, at the Shyamnagar filling station. Authorities confirmed that an altercation broke out at the fuel station centering around the procurement of fuel, during which Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Russel Hossain was physically attacked.

Following the confrontation at the fueling station, ASI Russel Hossain formally lodged a complaint. On March 26, 2025, the injured officer registered a case at the local police station, naming Abdul Matin as the single perpetrator responsible for the assault.

Acting on the warrant and subsequent charges, law enforcement units tracked down the BNP leader. Police successfully apprehended Abdul Matin during the evening hours on Thursday as he was located near the bus stand in the Shyamnagar municipal area.
