Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman Meets Japan Envoy Yohei Sasakawa in Dhaka

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met with Japan's special envoy for national reconciliation in Myanmar and Nippon Foundation Chairman Yohei Sasakawa at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday. The diplomatic engagement took place at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka, bringing together senior government officials and international figures to discuss pressing regional and bilateral matters.

During the discussions, the two leaders focused on achieving a sustainable solution to the ongoing Rohingya crisis, focusing specifically on the repatriation process and the strengthening of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan. Yohei Sasakawa, serving in his official capacity as Japan's special envoy for national reconciliation in Myanmar, shared insights from his extensive diplomatic engagements regarding the crisis.

Elaborating on his recent diplomatic efforts, Yohei Sasakawa stated that he is working as the special envoy of the Japanese government on national reconciliation issues in Myanmar. He added that he has been working for about 50 years to establish peace and eliminate discrimination in various regions across the world. Sasakawa also noted that he had discussions with the president of Myanmar regarding the Rohingya crisis, and he believes that the Myanmar government is sincere in resolving the issue.

However, Sasakawa cautioned that despite the sincere approach of the Myanmar government, progress on Rohingya repatriation is taking time due to the current complex situation in the Rakhine province. In response to the broader humanitarian and developmental needs, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called on Japan to provide crucial assistance in establishing a dedicated vaccine production center within Bangladesh.

The high-profile meeting was attended by a distinguished group of ministers and officials from Bangladesh. Among those present at the Prime Minister's Office were Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Humayun Kabir, Shama Obaid Islam, and Shakirul Islam Khan, alongside other key delegates representing the Bangladesh government.
